Don't forget that Utopians use the progressive media outlets to maintain much of their prosperity by blaming everyone but themselves for the tragedies manufactured by the senseless policies their leadership's put into place. That's how they maintain their popularity, power and control. Without the unthinking masses voting for them, their Zombie Army of the mindless, they have to steal votes or create new votes; and they excel at both.

In the end though, it's hard to feel sympathy for mindless voters who've continuously voted for their self-destruction over the last 60 years. And it's the same in Chicago, Baltimore, Atlanta, St Louis and many other cities. I really wouldn't want to be in charge in CA when the water stops coming out of the tap, there's no longer food on the shelves and the lights go out. Then the mob these Utopian leaders have created and encouraged will be coming for them.

    The Selfish Californian
The Silicon Valley motto should be “I create inequality by hating inequality.”
    By Victor Davis Hanson
    June 12, 2022

We hear plenty of reasons for the perfect storm that imploded California. One-party, progressive government, of course. Decades of unchecked illegal immigration, without doubt. Years of mass flight out of state of the productive middle classes, certainly. But perhaps the most important, but overlooked, reason has been the infusion of trillions of dollars of mostly tech capital into the state. Unimaginable sums of market capital warped politics and led to a top-down, feudal society, run by progressive elites who are shielded from the ramifications of their own toxic ideologies. More specifically, the common denominator was the emergence in California of a selfish, monied, left-wing political class. In concrete terms, it cared little for others but masked that unconcern with abstract leftism, emulating medieval penance and indulgences to assuage guilt over its enjoyment of sheltered and very good lives.

California’s recent premier politicians at the local, state, and federal levels—Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Gavin Newsom, and Nancy Pelosi—all enjoyed wealth and power, whether by inherited money and family brand names, through marriage, or using their positions to leverage lucrative family and personal business with the Chinese.

Their lifestyles before, during, and after office-holding reflected both their privileges and the vast material differences between their own lives and the millions of Californians who suffered enormously from their utopian bromides. Yet a world away from their homes in Grass Valley, Kentfield, Lake Tahoe, Napa, Pacific Heights, or Rancho Mirage, the rest of the state’s residents who voted for them currently cannot afford a house, a full tank of gas, a chuck steak, or an air-conditioned afternoon.

Left-Leaning Pollster Shows Beto O'Rourke Down Nearly 20 Percent in Texas Gubernatorial Race
By Cameron Arcand | Jun 13, 2022 7:00 PM ET

Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) is trailing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott by 18.3 percent in a new poll from the Democrat-supportive Blueprint Polling/Chism Strategies.

In the survey of 603 Texas voters, 55.5 percent said they were “definitely” or “leaning toward” Abbott, compared with just 37.2 percent saying the same for O’Rourke, who formerly represented the El Paso area in the U.S. House.

Seven percent are unsure, and there is a 15.6 percent gap between those “definitely” voting for either candidate. The poll has a 3.99 percent margin of error.

The Real Clear Politics polling average for the race shows Abbott with a 6.7 percent lead average, and it does not include this survey.

Beyond the polls, O’Rourke is likely still working on overcoming a large money gap between him and his opponent.

As of February, Abbott is in a much better campaign finance position than the former presidential and senatorial candidate, as the incumbent had $62.6 million, which dwarfed O’Rourke’s $6 million, The Texas Tribune reported at the time.

The Democrat gained nationwide attention for interrupting a press conference featuring Abbott following the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, so it will be interesting to see what his money shapes out to be when the next report is filed.

Regardless, these polling numbers are terrible for O’Rourke no matter how you slice it. As they come from a pollster that backs his own party, it shows an uphill battle and likely a damning fate for the candidate this November.

Democrats have been pushing for Texas to flip blue with a statewide victory for years but keep failing in their pursuit. O’Rourke quickly became popular among the party, despite narrowly losing to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in 2018. Still, the race was sufficiently competitive that he felt prompted to launch a failed presidential bid in 2020.

He might be convinced that the third time is the charm to revive his political career, yet it will come across as embarrassing this time around. O’Rourke has a not-so-tough choice to make if he loses in November: retire from perpetual campaigning or continue to be a perennial candidate.

Sure, he’s only 49 years old, but age is not the only factor in determining whether or not it’s time to pass the torch. The political environment is different than it was in 2018, as there’s much more likely to be a red wave than a blue one. Unfortunately for O’Rourke, he’ll learn that the hard way.

Raphael Warnock Blames Brother’s Drug Conviction on Systemic Racism. Court Records Tell a Different Story.

When he talks about racism in the U.S. justice system, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D., Ga.) often cites the case of his older brother—a "first-time," "nonviolent" drug offender who was sentenced to life in prison due to a "pandemic of racism," according to the senator.

Warnock has compared his half-brother, whose full name is Keith Coleman, to black victims of police shootings, attributed his imprisonment to the "stigma of color and criminality," and praised his early release in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a day of "hope" for the justice system.

But hundreds of pages of court records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon tell a more complicated story: Coleman was a cop with the Savannah Police Department when he was convicted of facilitating a cross-country cocaine trafficking operation in 1996 and 1997—and once warned that he could send a drug dealer’s "black ass" to prison if the dealer didn’t pay Coleman more money.

The details conflict with Warnock’s accounts, which omit that Coleman was a police officer and portray him as a victim of law enforcement corruption rather than a participant in it.

"[My brother] was a first-time offender, convicted of a nonviolent drug-related offense, in which no one got hurt, no one died, no one even got high because the federal government basically created the sting operation," said Warnock in a June 2020 speech to the American Jewish Archives.

After the death of Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man who was fatally shot by an Atlanta police officer while resisting arrest in 2020, Warnock said, "It has become too common to counsel families grieving from unjust loss, like that of Rayshard Brooks, or to grieve from separation."

"I have known this pain personally, and my family has experienced it over the last 22 years of my brother’s incarceration," Warnock said.

The records also highlight the tension between the senator’s public statements railing against police misconduct and his personal efforts to support a family member convicted of police misconduct.

Vulnerable Dems’ Midterm Strategy: Attack Their Own Party

As confidence in the Biden administration reaches new lows, vulnerable Democrats running in the 2022 midterms want to disassociate from their party, according to an Associated Press report.

Democrats in Congress are localizing their campaign issues to create distance between them and the embattled administration in Washington, D.C. Even though her party is currently enjoying a legislative majority, Nevada senator Catherine Cortez Masto says on her campaign website she is running against "dysfunction in Washington." Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman, another vulnerable Democrat, said in a recent TV ad showing footage of a town in his state, "Washington, D.C., attacked towns like this for years." Wisconsin Senate candidate Mandela Barnes has described the Democratic-controlled Senate as an "out-of-touch millionaire’s club," the AP reported. And New Hampshire senator Maggie Hassan has criticized in recent weeks President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and border policies, as well as challenged her party to address soaring gas prices.

"I’m taking on members of my own party to push a gas tax holiday, and I’m pushing Joe Biden to release more of our oil reserves," Hassan said in a May campaign ad.

Almost 50 Democratic officials doubt President Joe Biden can prevent sweeping losses for Democrats in the midterms, interviews conducted by the New York Times revealed. The president is unpopular among both parties as the cost of goods climbs and gas prices reach an average of $5 for the first time in history. After the past two years brought a disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, border crisis, and record inflation, party leaders, including former president Barack Obama’s chief campaign strategist, are also concerned about Biden’s age and efficacy if he ran again in 2024.

"To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality," Steve Simeonidis, a Democratic National Committee member from Miami, told the New York Times.

How Stacey Abrams Helped Funnel Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars to an Israel-Hating Terrorist Sympathizer

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams sits on the board of a foundation that funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to an anti-Israel activist who has praised terrorists and encouraged violence against Jews.

Abrams joined the Marguerite Casey Foundation board in May 2021, business filings show. Roughly six months later, the foundation announced its 2021 cohort of "Freedom Scholars," a group of "leading thinkers and scholars … in critical fields including abolitionist, Black, feminist, queer, radical, and anti-colonialist studies." Included in the group was UCLA professor Robin D.G. Kelley, a leading Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) activist who works with groups that collaborate with Palestinian terrorists.

Kelley, who received $250,000 through the program, praised the Palestine Liberation Organization—a U.S.-designated terror group—as "revolutionary combatants" and "models for those of us dedicated to Black liberation and socialism" in a 2016 article. Three years prior, Kelley encouraged Palestinians to use violence against Israelis, calling the notion that Palestinians should only protest non-violently a "bludgeon to beat down Palestinian organizations." Kelley also advises

Why do politicians always seem so surprised, and disappointed, when corporations react in ways that are in their self-interest?

Maybe It Was Something We Taxed?

    Steven Hayward

First it was Boeing, which announced a few weeks ago that it was moving its headquarters from Chicago to the Washington DC area. Boeing had moved to Chicago from its long-time home in Seattle 20 years ago to “be closer to its customers.” So this move to DC makes sense as the federal government is increasingly a primary “customer” of Boeing products—not just defense material, but its commercial aircraft and other product lines for which the FAA and NASA are now de facto managerial partners.

Today, heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar announced that it, too, is pulling up stakes and moving its headquarters from Chicago to Irving, Texas. Cat has been a pillar of the business community in Illinois for more than 100 years. As the Wall Street Journal reports:

The maker of construction and mining equipment said Tuesday that its existing office in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, would serve as its new global headquarters. Caterpillar said that the move from its current base in suburban Chicago would help it grow and that the company wasn’t getting any economic or tax incentives related to the headquarters move.

The move—expected to affect the roughly 230 corporate employees at Caterpillar’s headquarters—is the latest in a series of recent relocations that have drawn major manufacturers closer to corporate and government customers, and tech giants from Silicon Valley to Texas.

I like the sentence that Texas wasn’t offering any tax incentives to Caterpillar for the move. Texas doesn’t need to. Having no personal income tax is tax incentive enough, and that’s available to everybody, not just favored companies. Even the Journal’s conventional (meaning mostly liberal) news pages can’t really conceal this, noting: “Manufacturers have increasingly turned to the Southwest as a destination for new factories, drawn by available space, appealing tax policies and an expanding technology workforce.”

I wonder if it will occur to anyone in Illinois to ask: “Gee-I wonder if it was something we taxed?”

Alternative formula: What do you get when you keep your taxes and Democrats down? Prosperity.

    Chaser (and heh):
