Three dead, four injured in Sandton restaurant shooting

The shooting occurred after a man and his bodyguards wanted to enter the restaurant with guns and the restaurant denied them entry.


Three people have been shot dead at a restaurant in Sandton.

It is understood that the shooting happened at Solo on Thursday night. Three people were shot and killed, and four others were injured.

Police said the motive for the shooting is currently unknown.

Shooting

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili told The Citizen that investigations are ongoing.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that last night, just before 11pm, a man came in together with his bodyguards and wanted to enter a restaurant in Sandton with a firearm, and the restaurant has a no firearm policy.

“So, there was an altercation and a shooting that occurred, which resulted in three people being killed and four being injured and being taken to the hospital. Of the injured are two patrons, as well as a security guard and a CPF member who was on patrol last night. The people that were killed were that man (who wanted to enter) and two of his bodyguards,” Muridili said.

Firearms

Muridili said police seized four firearms including two high-calibre rifles.

“Two AK47 rifles and two handguns. Investigations will be conducted by our serious and violent crimes unit and murder and robbery.”

Muridili said no arrests have been made.

CIT robbers killed

Last month, six cash-in-transit (CIT) suspects were shot dead in Tshwane.

Police said the suspects were fatally wounded in Laudium.

When they were intercepted, the suspects were allegedly on their way to rob a cash van in Atteridgeville. Police attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicles when the shootout ensued.

“Six suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with the police in Laudium, and police recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”

One suspect was arrested.
